Diabetes Hands Foundation Announces Interim Executive Director as Manny Hernandez, Co

BERKELEY, CA: January 15, 2015 Manny Hernandez, President and Co-Founder of the Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF), has announced his decision to step down as President of the organization.

Diabetes Hands Foundation has grown tremendously in reach and impact since its beginning in 2008, and I believe it now has the foundation and direction to pass to a new executive leader. I will always be strongly connected to the organization and intend to remain involved in an advisory capacity, said Manny. Manny explained that his decision was a personal choice to expand his career path by exploring opportunities in the health sector.

The Board of Directors has named Melissa Lee as interim Executive Director effective today, January 15, 2015. Melissa has been a part of DHF since 2008. She has previously been Lead Administrator of TuDiabetes, DHFs online community in English, until being elected to the Board of Directors in 2012. Melissa also serves on the steering committee of Diabetes Advocates, another DHF program. She is also a recognized blogger and advocate, writing for A Sweet Life online magazine as Tech Editor, as well as for her personal blog, Sweetly Voiced.

Donna Hill, Chair of the Board of DHF said We are forever grateful to Manny for growing DHF to where it is today. Manny is leaving after having led DHF to unprecedented levels of outreach, advocacy, and funding in 2014, and the Board is confident that 2015 will continue in this trajectory. We are excited to have Melissa Lee, a well-respected champion for those living with diabetes, step up to lead DHF as it transitions to the next stage.

The Board intends to conduct a search for a permanent Executive Director to succeed Manny, with the expectation that a successor will be named before January 2016.
